Hi everyone! My name is Dan Larsen! Thank you for checking out this blog!
A little about me: I was born and raised right here in Wisconsin. I live in Cedarburg right now and have lived here for most of my life.
I went to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee for my undergraduate studies from the Fall 2010 to the Spring of 2014. I graduated with Bachelor degrees in Political Science and History.
After my undergraduate studies, I attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison Law School from the Fall of 2014 to Spring 2017. I graduated with a law degree, making me the first member of my family not only to complete college, but to have a degree in law!
I’ve very politically active and have been so for most of this decade. I worked with President Obama’s re-election campaign in the Summer of 2011 as a Summer Organizer in my home county of Ozaukee, training volunteers, meeting with voters, knocking on doors, making calls, and helping build the neighborhood organizing teams that later drove us to victory. I also worked as a fellow/organizer on the Democratic Coordinated campaign out of our state street office in Madison in the Fall of 2016. There, I made calls to volunteers and voters, trained volunteers on how to door knock and make calls, registered voters, and helped our efforts to get people to early vote and Get Out To Vote on election day. I’ve also been heavily involved as a volunteer with other campaigns, including registering voters and knocking on doors on campus at UW-Milwaukee in the Fall of 2012, canvassing in Ozaukee, Washington, and Dane Counties during the 2018 mid-terms, and most recently door-knocking for my good friend Tip McGuire in Kenosha who was recently elected to the State Assembly in the Spring.
Beyond those jobs, I’ve worked as an intern in policy and law with the Department of Public Instruction, and with State Representative Mark Spreitzer’s office during the my law school studies. I interned in the Wisconsin State Public Defender’s Office, Trial Division, in Milwaukee County in the Summer of 2016, before going on to work for the Public Defender’s Office in Washington County as a trial attorney. I also worked briefly in private criminal defense too before deciding to pursue a different career path.
Right now, I work as a contributor several sports sites on Fansided.com: Behind the Buck Pass (about the Milwaukee Bucks), Man City Square (about Manchester City Football Club), and Reviewing the Brew (about the Milwaukee Brewers). I’ve guested on the Win in 6 Bucks podcast as well through the Bucks site I write for. I’m very passionate about the teams that I love and I’m always looking to have fun, constructive conversations about them.
I’ve also been actively working as a volunteer with Swing Left in Wisconsin, where I helped draft a guide on Voter Registration for the state. I’m actively volunteering and working with state party and the Ozaukee County Democrats, where I’m helping organize events and run our county party Twitter Account. I’m also working as a volunteer with Elizabeth Warren’s campaign.
I’ve always wanted to do work where I can help people. Most of my work, and my career, has centered around doing this. I like to identify problems in the law and work for ways to solve them. I’m particularly passionate about education, health care, criminal justice reform, voting rights, and government/ethics reform.
I know we are capable of great things when we work together. Don’t let anyone ever tell you that we can’t make our cities, our state, our country, and our planet a better place. We can bring about real change!
